We had to read this play in class, but I question whether that was a sound choice as an example of good American literature. Very often the plot leads the reader astray. One reason is that it is not always marked clearly in the text when Willy leaves reality behind. (The publishers might have used a different typeface there.) If you have to read it several times to find out which is reality, hallucination or flashback it makes the entire book less enjoyable than it could have been. Some people out there might call that art; to me, it is a nuisance. There is too little action to really keep your attention. Some parts are downright boring. Most of the play is redundant as Willy and Biff do little to solve their problems. Some reviewers claim Miller intended to show Willy as a victim of capitalism, and this aspect he has succeeded. Unfortunately, he has created a person, whose character is all but likeable, so my sympathy is minimal. The two sons are drifters, too. The only actors, who come across as positive and authentic, are Willy’s neighbour Charley, and Willy’s wife Linda. Sadly, the possible and promising subsidiary theme, city corruption versus rural idyll, was developed too little to impact.For this edition: Reclam offers good footnotes to understand the language.
Unfortunately I was not aware that this is a shortened version of Miller's play. I wanted to use it in language classes along with the original play. Because of the many missing parts it is impossible to read and listen at the same time. So if you intend to use this recording along with the book, forget about it.... Otherwise the recording is very good.
War gebraucht aber ok. Einfaches Buch
Sehr klein geschrieben, heißt man kann nicht viel Lust das Buch zu lesen. Dennoch ist es ein gelungenes Buch und unter jedem Text stehen einige Vokabeln erklärt.

Death of a salesman ist eine schöne Geschichte eines alten Mannes, dessen Leben total aus der Bahn gerät und er den Draht zu seinen Söhnen total verliert, sein Job verliert und bei dem das Altsheimer immer mehr einsetzt. Schön geschrieben, auch nett verfilmt.Gutes Buch. Kann ich empfehlen.Gruß Hein
